Company Profile

SWT (Southwest Technologies Inc.) has applied the scientific principles of chemistry, physics and biochemistry to the science of wound healing, prevention of pressure ulcers, rehabilitation concerns and pain management. Through extensive cooperative efforts and feedback from the practicing professional a family of products has been developed.

In the field of wound care - Elasto-Gel "hydrogel" wound dressings were the first bacteriostatic/fungistatic wound dressing to be offered on the market in 1988. Extensive animal studies have shown that microorganisms do not reproduce in wounds which are covered with these dressings. Clinically many infected wounds have been reported to begin the healing process within days and sometimes even hours after applying this dressing. Elasto-Gel is offered in a large number of sizes, which are suitable to cover wounds from the small burn to the large coccyx/ischial pressure sore, or the small toe wound to the extensive superficial burn or skin irritation.

A new addition to the wound care line is the super high absorbent, Gold Dust, named by a nurse that found it invaluable when treating highly exudating wounds. When using the combination of Elasto-Gel wound dressings and Gold Dust, the management of the exudate from the wound was relatively simple and the amount of exudate was reduced within 2 weeks such that the required wound dressing changes were only 3 times a week instead of the 3 times a day that were required at the start of the protocol.
With these products a majority of wounds can be managed to produce successful outcomes.

In the field of rehabilitation SWT has concentrated efforts to produce the first microwaveable hot/cold therapy products. A family of more than 40 different sizes and shapes have been developed to literally apply hot or cold therapy to any part of the body. These products remain flexible even at temperatures of -20 F. The product can be stored in the freezer to always have a flexible cold pack and yet be put directly into the microwave and heated to have a flexible instant hot pack (within 5 to 10 minutes). Many end users have reported these products have durability of more than 10 years with hundreds of uses per year. No drying out, no rejuvenation required (no soaking in water).

Cast & Splint Padding also plays an important roll in the protection of skin and tissue from the shear, friction and pressure. Very effective under casts, splints and braces. Also used extensively for the reduction of hypertropic and keloid scars.

The wheelchair cushion line has been expanded to offer a number of options to fit the wide variety of body shapes and sizes as well as those with special requirements. The combination of specially designed gel pads combined with the shaped contoured foams of selected densities produce cushions that give exceptional pressure reduction for patients from the light weight patients to the larger patients up to at least 300lbs as indicated by the Tecscan mapping system.

Browse our site for additional cushioning and protective devices, which function to prevent skin damage, reduce pressure, friction and shear which assists the healing process for faster wound closure.
