The Elasto-Gel Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing is a high glycerine content hydrogel dressing with a unique horse shoe shaped design to cover the buttocks area, including the coccyx and
ischials, which are the most common areas for pressure and pressure ulcers. The Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing is used as a wound management dressing as well as a preventive padding to help prevent the formation of pressure ulcers.
The Dressing utilizes a water resistant, hypoallergenic adhesive border tape system to hold the dressing firmly in place. As with all Elasto-Gel wound dressings, the Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing is bacteriostatic/fungistatic, highly absorbent, helps prevent the formation of slough, debris, necrotic tissue and eschar and will not stick to or dissolve into the wound.
Indications
The Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing is indicated as an external use dressing for the local management of coccyx and ischial pressure ulcers and as a preventative padding to help prevent pressure ulcers.
Pharmacology
The Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing utilizes a high concentration of glycerine (65%) as a water soluble humectant in a mixture of water and polymer matrix. The Horse Shoe Shaped Dressing is presented as a hydrogel (A6247) because of its ability to absorb large quantities of aqueous fluids thereby controlling moisture at the wound site. Its protective and cushioning properties are far superior to other hydrogels and hydrocolloids, and due to its high percentage of glycerine it exhibits additional desirable properties such as superior padding and pressure ulcer prevention, pain relief and odor control.
